Description | CIPW norms for the major element analyses were calculated using a highly modified version of the basic program "Petcal" written for DOS in the BASIC programming language. The program was originally proposed by Bingler and others, 1976, Nevada Bureau of Mines and Geology Report 28 and modified by Richard Koch in 1983. Discriminant functions developed by Newberry and Burns (1989) using SAS statistical software were used to evaluate the gold potential of the samples. |

Description | 35 rock samples were crushed then pulverized so that the material passed through a -100 mesh screen. 35 samples were analyzed for: SiO2 and Al2O3 using Spectrophotographic methods after NaOH fusion; Fe2O3, MnO, P2O5 and TiO2 using Spectrophotometrical methods after HF-H2SO4-HNO3 acid digestion; CaO using titrimetric methods after HF-H2SO4-HNO3 acid digestion; K2O and Na2O using Atomic Emission Spectroscopy after HF-H2SO4-HNO3 acid digestion; MgO was analyzed by one of two methods outlined in USGS Bulletin 1144A by Shapiro and Brannock (1962). FeO was analyzed using titrimetric methods after HF-H2SO4 acid digestion. H2O+ was acquired using heating methods. CO2 values were acquired by its volume upon evolution with acid. Some CO2 results may be below the lower limit for that method. |
